Maine Police Chase Involving Stolen U-Haul Truck Tops 90 MPH
According to an article in the KJ, a high-speed police chase through Central Maine ended with a crash that totaled two vehicles.
The article explains that the pursuit started at about 3:40 on Tuesday afternoon when Winthrop and Monmouth Police Chief Paul Ferland spotted the stolen U-Haul truck heading east on US Route 202.
Because the truck had already been reported twice for driving "erratically", Ferland tried to stop the vehicle at the intersection of Route 202 and Main Street in Winthrop, but was unable to do so. Additionally, the vehicle had been reported stolen from the Auburn area.
Chief Ferland and Officer Mike Cote pursued the truck down Route 202 and Winthrop Center Road at speeds that reached over 90 MPH. The chase ended when the stolen U-Haul truck slammed into a FedEx delivery van that was trying to turn into a driveway to make a delivery. Both vehicles were totaled, but no one was seriously injured in the crash.

The man driving the U-Haul, Ronald R. Hinkley Jr., 25, of North Monmouth, was arrested at the scene. Passenger Robert Hermanson, 31, of Warren, was also arrested on several outstanding drug trafficking warrants.
Both men are being held at the Kennebec County Jail. There is no word on when they will first appear in court.
The article explained that the Winthrop & Monmouth police were assisted by the Maine State Police, Maine Warden Service, Monmouth Fire Department and Winthrop Ambulance Service.
