According to an article on the WCSH 6 website, an Oxford County sheriff’s deputy shot an armed man twice Monday after responding to a reported domestic dispute in Brownfield.

According to a press release from the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and officers from the Fryeburg Police Department, Maine State Police and Maine Warden Service responded to a home after receiving reports that a man was chasing his wife with a gun.

When law enforcement arrived, authorities say they confronted the suspect. The man allegedly pointed his weapon toward officers, prompting an Oxford County deputy to fire twice.  The suspect was struck in the hands.

Paramedics treated the man at the scene before he was taken to Bridgton Hospital. He was later transported to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston for additional treatment.

The deputy who fired the shots has been placed on administrative leave, which the sheriff’s office says is standard procedure following a deadly force incident.

The Maine Office of the Attorney General will investigate the deputy’s use of deadly force. The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office will continue investigating the underlying domestic dispute.

The suspect is expected to face charges including domestic violence reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, two counts of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, domestic violence terrorizing and terrorizing.

The investigation remains ongoing.
