The factors for ranking the states included:

1. Cookie stores per capita
2. Suitable habitat for reindeer
3. Locals employed in manufacturing
4. Enthusiasm for eggnog
5. Percentage of residents with the last name 'Kringle'
6. Facebook interest in Santa Claus
7. Milk production per capita

Washington state finished as the best state suited for Santa.

Maine was number 8. New Hampshire and Vermont were also in the top ten.
