I am a big lover of pinball. I've loved playing it ever since I was old enough to stand on a chair at Minnie's Restaurant in South Paris, watching as men who chain-smoked with an ashtray on the game, flipped the ball around the playfield racking up points.

I missed a lot of classes in my Freshman year of college because I was busy playing pinball in the student union at the University of Maine. It was just more fun than those boring classes on subjects I'd never need in radio.

Then I discovered competitive pinball and I was hooked. I met people from all over the world who loved pinball as much, if not more than I did. I travelled across the county playing in tournaments and even though I never won, I had so much fun doing it.

That's a feeling I still get here in Maine with so many places to play pinball, including one that only opened recently at 35 Scamman Street in Saco in the former location of Verizon and before that, Movie Gallery. The Maine Sliverball Tavern now occupies the space and it has been transformed into a pinball palace with over 40 pinball machines and a bar stocked with a great selection of adult beverages.

All ages are welcome, but children must be accompanied by a parent. Food isn't sold at the Silverball Tavern, but you can bring your own food and purchase your drinks there.

Take a look inside and see what it's all about!
