The Maine State Police Are Investigating an Early Wednesday Morning Crash in Waterville
Early Wednesday morning, emergency crews responded to a serious crash on Interstate 95 in Waterville.
According to the Maine State Police, the two-vehicle crash happened around 5:38 AM on Wedneday. Investigators say a vehicle driven by 41-year-old Raymond Fenderson of Brunswick was attempting to merge onto I-95 northbound from the mile marker 130 on-ramp in Waterville when it collided with a vehicle already traveling northbound on the interstate.
After the initial impact, Fenderson’s vehicle slammed head-on into the guardrail in the median. The crash left him trapped inside the vehicle.
Crews from Waterville Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and spent about 30 minutes working to extricate him from the wreckage before finally freeing him.
Fenderson suffered serious injuries, but authorities say they are not believed to be life-threatening. He was taken by Waterville Fire to a local hospital for treatment. No other injuries were reported.
Investigators say impairment is believed to be a likely factor in the crash, though the investigation remains ongoing.
The passing lane on I-95 northbound was shut down while crews worked to free the driver and clear the wreckage from the roadway.
Maine State Police were assisted at the scene by the Waterville Fire Department and Dostie’s Towing.
We hope that Fenderson makes a quick recovery.
