
Central Maine Murder Victim & Suspected Killer Identified
⚠ On Wednesday morning, police were called to a home on Giles Road in Readfield
⚠ They found a 32-year-old woman deceased in the yard and a 67-year-old woman injured inside the home
⚠ A suspect was arrested a short distance from the crime scene
On Wednesday afternoon, a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety informed us that the Maine State Police were investigating a murder an assault that took place on Giles Road in Readfield on Wednesday morning.
The press release explained that law enforcement arrived on the scene to discover a deceased female outside the residence and an injured female inside the residence. That press release also explained that a suspect had been apprehended a short distance from the scene.
We now know additional details about the incident and the identities of those involved.
According to a Thursday afternoon press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety's Shannon Moss, the deceased has been identified as 32-year-old Margaux Whittemore, of Belfast.
The injured woman has been identified as 67-year-old Dorothy Whittemore. She was taken to Maine Medical Center in critical condition, but her condition has since been upgraded.
The suspect in the assault and killing has been identified as 34-year-old Samuel Whittemore, of Belfast. He was reportedly taken into custody a short distance away from the scene of the killing.
The press release goes on to say:
He was transported to Maine General Hospital in Augusta for an evaluation and has since been transported to the Kennebec County Jail where he has been charged with Murder. Margaux and Samuel Whittemore were married and lived in Belfast. At the time of the incident, they were visiting Samuel’s parent’s home on Giles Road in Readfield. Dorothy Whittemore is Samuel’s mother. His father was not inside the house at the time but arrived shortly after the incident occurred. The deceased was transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta where an autopsy was performed Thursday morning, February 20, 2025. The manner of death has been ruled a homicide.
Samuel Whittemore is expected to make his first court appearance tomorrow.
