Mars One, the project to send four people to mars on a one trip, has narrowed their selection down to 100. They started with 200,000 applicants and are now down to 50 women and 50 men.

Of the 100, 39 are Americans and 31 are Europeans. The ‘astronauts’ selected will now go through exercises to test how they will be able to function in a small settlement on the red planet.

The Mars One project is being funded by selling the rights to a reality TV show that will show what it is like to live in a place with only four people and knowing you will not return to earth. The project is slated for 2024 but has been postponed several times already.

Some in the field of space travel have serious doubts the project will ever get off the ground.
