When Division ll baseball teams the Minnesota State Mavericks and Bemidji State Beavers played the first game of their doubleheader, the Mavericks won 10-9. There was no indication in that first game what would happen in the second.

When the two teams played the second game of their doubleheader, the final score was, Minnesota State 41-Bemidji State 20. The two teams combined for 61 runs and the 41 runs scored by the Mavericks set a school record.

They set another record for NCAA Division ll baseball for the most hits in a game, 56. Each team used eight pitchers and had 110 at-bats. In the top of the eighth, Minnesota State led 27-20 when they scored 14 runs to make their total 41. Bemidji State failed to score in the bottom of the eighth so the game was called due to the mercy rule.
