New All “Suite” Hotel Could Be Coming To Waterville
An undeveloped plot of land on Armory Road in Waterville could soon become a new extended stay suites motel.
According to the KJ, a company called Retlew Investment LLC is scheduled to ask the board for an informal preapplication review for the construction of a new hotel. Retlew Investments owns a plot of land at 21 Industrial Park Road. Retlew Investments, along with Caprilite LLC, which owns 75 Armory Road, plant to request revisions to a previously approved subdivision. These changes would allow for the creation of a 2 acre lot where the hotel could be built.
According to the article, the plan would be to construct an 81 room (suite) Home 2 Suites hotel.
The hotel brand, by Hilton, is an extended stay suites hotel that is perfect for business travelers and vacationers who plan to stay in an area for more than a few nights. Each hotel features a variety of suites from studio suites (like a normal hotel room) to one bedroom suites. Additionally, each hotel has a massive common area, called the Oasis.
Wikipedia describes the Oasis as:
an environment where guests can socialize, and includes communal and individual work zones, a 52" flat-screen TV and a complimentary "Inspired Table" breakfast service with a variety of customizable options.[9] Other features of the Oasis include the Home2 MKT stocked with grab-and-go items, the Spin2 Cycle combined laundry and fitness area, and a business zone offering computers, wireless printing and complimentary Wi-Fi access
Based on the addresses in the article, it appears that the hotel will be located directly across the street from Caswell's Liquidation Center. As it will be located near the I-95 ramps, the yet to be approved hotel will be perfect for business travelers, families visiting Colby College & Thomas College, and people who want to spend a few days exploring Central Maine.
The next step in the process will be for the Waterville Planning Board to take a look at the informal plans. They next meet tonight (October 4th) at 7 PM.
