New York State Police first saw the footage and notified Thomaston Police. According to the article, it doesn't appear like the video targeted the Thomaston location, specifically, rather the New York State Police discovered he was planning on traveling to the Midcoast area to stay with family and the Thomaston Walmart was determined to be the most likely location.

In the Facebook Messenger video, he was seen with a gun. Rockland Police and the FBI are assisting Thomaston Police in the investigation. The Walmart was closed at 9 pm instead of midnight just as a precaution on Wednesday, August 21st. There doesn't appear to be any public threat at this time, according to police as reported by WMTW.
