The timing couldn't be better. A sunny holiday weekend and peak foliage in Maine. So charge up the camera and pack up the kids and maybe make it a weekend of apple picking, haunted hayrides and leaf peeping.Fall colors are hitting peak levels across most of eastern, central and western Maine in time for the Columbus Day weekend.

In its weekly fall foliage report, the Maine Forest Service says rangers are reporting that foliage is 75 to 100 percent toward peak in a stretch of the state between Bethel to Bangor to Calais.

Reports are updated weekly through mid-October at mainefoliage.com.
