Reopening Maine Schools Could Cost Over $300 Million

According to WMTW, Education Commissioner Pender Makin is saying that it could cost as much as $328 million to reopen Maine's K-12 schools amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The extra money would be needed for additional staffing, PPE, cleaning supplies, and buses. She is reminding people that, at this time, that number is only an estimate.

She has also said that it is officials in Augusta, not the local school boards, who will make the final decision about when (and how) schools will reopen.

At this time, no announcement has been made regarding a timeline for the reopening of Maine's schools. Given the amount of time required to plan for the new school year, there's a good chance we could see a preliminary plan announced soon.
