When I was a young adult, the thing to do was spend your Friday and Saturday nights hanging out at clubs and bars.

Well, let's face it, it was often more than just your weekend nights.  Most of us would occasionally take advantage of some of the mid-week specials.  For example, my friends and I would never miss the one dollar draft beer night at our favorite Bangor bar.  If you know, you know.

And, that was true whether we were into dancing or not.  Everyone went out, even if it was just to have a few drinks and meet some new people.

These days, nightlife outside the biggest cities in significantly different.  Fewer young adults are big drinkers, many people are trying to save money any way they can, and the capabilities of our phones mean that we no longer have to go out to socialize with people.

Because of these factors, and more, it is no surprise that we are seeing a decline in the business at many clubs and party bars.  In fact, Maine recently lost another nightspot.

The Salt North Taproom in Bangor, Maine

According to an article in the Bangor Daily News, the Salt North Taproom in Bangor has closed its doors for the final time.

The article explains that Mark Greenleaf, the owner of the building at 16 Union St., told the Bangor Daily News via text that the restaurant has closed at that location.

While he cited a number of problems behind the closure, he declined to share details. The Union Street space previously housed Carolina’s Sports and Spirits before Salt North opened there last June.

The establishment was a combination Caribbean food restaurant, bar, and nightclub.

What Will the 18 Union Street, Bangor Building Be Used For Next?

The article explains that the space will now be home to MJ’s Catering and Event Center.  In addition to providing a place for events, they plan to open to serve quick meals to people attending shows at the Maine Savings Amphitheater
