See Riveting Video Of Protected Whale Off Camden Maine Coast

For me, few places compare to the ocean. It is my happy place! The fresh sea air, amazing views, and memorable moments, all can be had just a few miles away. One of the things I like best about being on the water is you never know what you are going to see.

A good friend of mine was out on Penobscot Bay, just a few miles off the shore of Camden when he was graced with the presence of a Minke whale. The whale swam alongside the boat peacefully and would periodically blow water out of his blow hole. Sightings of these whales do happen in this area from time to time, but one coming alongside for such a long period of time is a rare event indeed.

According to the Maine Department of Marine Resources, the Minke whale can reach up to 30 feet in length, which is on the smaller size for whales but, still quite impressive especially when it swims up and hangs around the side of your boat!

The Minke whale is a protected species and cannot be hunted. They are also considered rather shy, which makes this video even more amazing.
