Veterans Day is tomorrow, November 11th, 2020, and according to an email we received from Connie Hanson, it looks like several churches in Maine's Capital City will be tolling their bells 11 times in honor of all of those who have served. The idea is that the participating Augusta churches will toll their bells at approximately the same time beginning at 11 AM tomorrow and continue for 11 rings.

The churches that are participating as of right now are South Parish Congregational Church, Saint Augustine's, Saint Mary's and most likely Penny Memorial as well. To enjoy the sound of the bells, all you'll have to do (if you're close enough to one of the participating locations) is just stick your head out the window and give a listen!

Here is a little more on the history of Veterans Day that we found on VA.gov,

World War I – known at the time as “The Great War” - officially ended when the Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919, in the Palace of Versailles outside the town of Versailles, France. However, fighting ceased seven months earlier when an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. For that reason, November 11, 1918, is generally regarded as the end of “the war to end all wars.”

And as always, we say a massive THANK YOU to ALL of our Veterans from every branch of the armed services.
