Think sexting is just for teens? Think again. Of adults in the United States between the ages of 18 and 82, 88% reported having sexted at least once.

A slightly lower number of respondents, 82%, reported sexting in the past year. Most of the research on sexting relates to teens and young adults and according to Emily C. Stasko, a clinical psychology PhD student at Drexel University, they wanted to see the role sexting plays in relationships between adults.

For respondents who said they were in a "very committed" relationship, there was no significant relationship between sexting and relationship satisfaction. Sexting is more strongly associated with satisfaction in men than women.

According to researchers, the study indicates that sexting is a prevalent behavior that adults engage in for a variety of reasons, both positive and negative.
