Can You Guess What Country Legend is Making a Massive Donation to a Maine Food Bank?

Even though hunger has always been a problem here in Maine, lately, we have seen more Mainers than ever dealing with food insecurity.

Between the economic upheaval of the pandemic and the crazy inflation we have experienced, we have seen a big spike in the number of those seeking aid from our local food banks.

Some food banks have been seeing a recording number of people seeking help.  In 2024, the Good Shepherd Food Bank, a state-wide hunger-fighting organization distributed, over 40 million meals.  When you consider that Maine is a state of only 1.3 million people, this is a mind-blowing number.

This record number of meals is part of a years-long trend.  Over the years, we have seen the number of meals given out climb steadily higher.  For example, in 2010 the organization served 10.7 million meals, 29 million meals in 2022, and 33.6 million meals in 2023.

Fortunately, the Good Shepherd Food Bank has hundreds of partner businesses, like their long-running association with Hannaford, and thousands of individuals who make donations each year.

This July, the food bank will get a massive donation from a legendary country singer.

According to a press release from Bryan Butler Media Relations, Shania Twain will donate $25,000 to the Good Shepherd Food Bank during her visit to the Maine Savings Amphitheater in Bangor.

The donation, which comes from the Shania Twain Foundation, is enough to purchase the food for about 50,000 meals.

The press release explains that the Shania Twain Foundation was:

Founded by music icon and humanitarian Shania Twain, the Shania Twain Foundation is dedicated to improving the lives of children and families facing poverty and food insecurity. The foundation supports programs across North America that provide access to food, education, mental well-being and other essential resources for underserved communities. The foundation’s goal is to develop strategic partnerships and provide funding and grants that will support under-resourced organizations in their efforts to lift the most vulnerable in their communities.
