Stunning Views At This South Thomaston Preserve
Maine is flush with conservation minded individuals that truly see the benefits of conservation of our beautiful lands for future generations to enjoy.
Personally, I am always amazed at some of the wonderful land that has been donated to the many land trusts that look after them for the enjoyment of the public.
I recently stumbled on a preserve that I had never been to that is part of the Georges River Land Trust. It's call the "Riverview Hayfields Preserve". It's relatively small, with 1.5 miles of walking trail. This 316 acre preserve can be found on RT 131 in South Thomaston.
This former farm land on the tidal river of the St. George River is a beautiful array of open field with a path that winds it's way to the waters edge. Open year round, this time of year you are greeted by the all the various colors of wild flowers along the way. It's also a great place to see a variety of birds that migrate and feed on the river.
It's a quick jaunt along the path with great views of the river and the rolling fields, it's easy to get lost in the simplistic beauty that surrounds you along the trail. A fun stop that is quick and easy for all, even our four legged friends, just remember to do a tick check before you leave.
