Sylvester Stallone won Best Supporting Actor for Creed at the 2016 Golden Globe awards.

As he took the stage, Stallone was greeted by a standing ovation from the Golden Globes audience. The actor, who says he was last at the Globes back in 1977, called Rocky Balboa “the best friend I ever had.”

Stallone, who was nominated for two Oscars back in ‘77, is both the critical and emotional favorite to win the Best Supporting Actor and, if he did, would be the first actor to win an Oscar for playing the same character.

In Ryan Coogler’s Creed, Stallone reprises his Rocky Balboa to help train the Michael B. Jordan’s Adonis Creed, the son of his former friend and opponent. Stallone beat out  Paul Dano for Love and Mercy, Idris Elba for Beasts of No Nation, Michael Shannon for 99 Homes and Mark Rylance for Bridge of Spies. This is Stallone’s first Golden Globe.
