Kids all over Central Maine have gone back to school and several families in the Lewiston-Auburn area have been touched by the Back To School Angel. It all happened at Kmart in Auburn. The manager of the store, Joyce Beane, told the NECN, 'that a woman, who told the staff that she was terminally ill, paid off 16 layaways in cash'. It came to about $3,000, 'she said that she wanted to do something nice for others before she died.'

One of the families that were touched by the Back To School Angel, was an Auburn grandmother who works nights as a janitor.

It turns out that she also helps needy children in Androscoggin and Oxford counties. She is part of 'Christmas Smilez', as they buy gifts for needy children in the area. They helped 85 families last year.
