Did you know that the average family spends about $800 on back to school supplies, and that is just this year according to the National Retail Federation.

With all the uncertainties surrounding this upcoming school year, not knowing whether students will be learning in the classroom, from their living room, or a combination of both can, and does add stress to families who may already be struggling.

Also, remote learning, social distancing, and not being able to share supplies are some of the added struggles educators and students are facing this fall.

In light of the current situation, we are happy to let you know about a great event coming up, The United Way of Mid-Maine's, 7th Annual Stuff the Bus School Supply Drive. This is a truly great event and it helps set students up for a successful school year, not to mention, relieves some of the pressure on educators too.

The United Way of Mid-Maine says:

"Community members can donate supplies on August 19th, from 10AM-2PM at a drive-thru collection event in the Waterville Walmart parking lot. United Way volunteers will be at the ready to take your donations directly from your vehicle. In addition to their collection event, through the end of August, donations can be dropped off at the Skowhegan Regional Chamber of Commerce, GRUB in Waterville, and the Verizon Wireless stores in Skowhegan and Newport."

If you are wondering what would make a great donation, they suggest backpacks, notebooks, folders, pencils, markers, hand sanitizer and more.
