Maine squirrels are hungry this year and they are eating what they can to fatten up for winter.

Maine has a bumper crop of squirrels this year because of an outstanding 2017 of acorns and other foods. Here in 2018 there is not as much food so they are eating pumpkins, apples and corn crops. They are getting nutrition where ever they can find it.

One pumpkin farmer in Standish says he has never seen anything like it, destroying crops as they chomp their way through pumpkin patches, apple orchards and corn fields.

According to bangordailynews.com sometimes squirrels would nibbled on apples that had fallen to the ground. But this season they’re skittering into the trees, scurrying to and fro, and making their mark.
