Driving the back roads and highways of New England, I frequently see people in cars and SUVs make some really dumb choices when they drive near trailer trucks.

They zip in front of trucks, they sit in truck blind spots, etc.  I feel that people often forget just how mass these vehicles have.  They can weigh as much as 80,000 pounds!  For comparison, a small car weighs about 2,000 pounds.  Because of this, they cannot stop on a dime.

This video should be a good reminder of that!

According to Boston TV station WCVB, the crash happened at about Noon on Saturday on Route 128 / Interstate 95 north near the ramp to the Massachusetts Turnpike by the Newton/Weston line.  The tractor-trailer slammed into the guardrail of a bridge over the Charles River.  The massive truck sliced through the guard rail like it was a knife through butter before it plunged into the river.

Despite the craziness of the crash, the driver is okay.  He was taken to the hospital, but was released on Friday night.  Not surprisingly, he is reportedly still shaken up.

Take a look at the video...

The truck is reportedly operated by Taunton's R&F Transportation.  The company has been cited several times in the last few years for its vehicles going over the speed limit.

It is believed speed was a factor in Saturday's crash.

Please be safe on the roads.
