Official Opening Date Set For Renys Augusta, Maine Store
If you consider yourself a bargain hunter (and these days, who doesn't?) you probably count Renys as one of your favorite stores.
The regional discount store chain, which got its start in the 1940s, has become an iconic part of Maine life. Due to the ever-changing selection, and wide variety, of products it really is a "Maine adventure".
The Story of Renys
According to the company website, the story of the chain started back in 1949, when Robert H. Reny, who everyone called R.H., opened his very first store in Damariscotta.
That first winter was so quiet that to keep the lights on, R.H. went door to door selling merchandise out of his old Hudson. Along the way he made a pile of new friends, and when spring rolled around, those same friends came to shop at the store. From there the business just kept growing.
His philosophy was simple. Find quality merchandise at a great price and pass those savings along to customers. That belief has been at the heart of Renys for more than 75 years, and it’s still what keeps the business going strong today.
Renys is Finally Opening a Location in Augusta
The first Renys store in Augusta will be located at the Capital Shopping Plaza (AKA the Shaw's Plaza).
The store will take over the space left vacant by the closure of Big Lots! in early 2025.
According to the company's website, they have set an official grand opening date. The event will be held on Thursday, October 9th.
They are planning to do an official ribbon cutting at 10 AM and you'll have a chance to enter to win prizes.
