Winthrop Schools To Extend Holiday Break Due To Covid Issues
Covid-19 is once again effecting a local school system due to several outbreaks.
Winthrop Public Schools have decided to extend their Thanksgiving holiday break after an emergency meeting was called by the Superintendent and Winthrop Public School Committee earlier this week according to a report by centralmaine.com
Now, November 22-23 will be considered "no school" days. The hope is to slow the spread of the virus across the Winthrop School system which have been stricken with several outbreaks since the beginning of this school year.
A memo that was sent out to town members relayed that there is much stress in the school system because of the continuing outbreaks.
Nov 22-23 were going to be remote learning days however many parents were reluctant to agree with that plan and are concerned that in-person learning would suffer if too many remote learning days were put in place.
Members of the community are very passionate and split on the best ways to handle the outbreaks and how it effects the children being taught.
This issue will continue to be a hot topic of conversation in the town of Winthrop for some time to come. Another committee meeting is scheduled for November 17th to revisit the Kid's Club issues.
