Yarmouth Clam Festival Chair Drama Kicks Into Overdrive Thanks to Storms

Those pesky chairs.

It's become as much of a tradition as the actual festival. The Yarmouth Clam Festival is happening Friday, 7/21 through Sunday, July 23. The kickoff to the whole thing is the Yarmouth Clam Festival Parade.

The parade happens on the Friday before Saturday and Sunday of the festival. But weeks before any of this happens people stake out their spot on the parade route. I've always thought it was kind of charming. But I think it causes the residents of Yarmouth to split down the middle. Early chair haters versus early chair lovers. People put their chairs out and then string them together to say,

This is where my family will be seated during the Yarmouth Clam Festival Parade!

But then we had storms the week before the festival and wouldn't you know it, those chairs went flipping onto Main Street.

And more chairs went down.

And more...

And more...

So many chairs went down that the Yarmouth, Maine Police Department put it on their Facebook page asking,

Can those of you with chairs on Main Street please find them and lay them down so they stop blowing into the road? The winds are creating issues for them.

Those were fighting words. The comments were a little spicy...for Yarmouth.

Some folks are not into the whole set you chairs out early. Not in the least bit.

It will all be over soon. The chair drama of the Yarmouth Clam Festival...almost as good as the parade itself. By the way, if you didn't set out your chair, good luck finding a spot!
