Veteran news anchor Shannon Moss was fired abruptly on Tuesday from Portland television station WMTW-TV. Moss had been with WMTW-TV since 2007 and had co-anchored WMTW's morning news since 2011 with Erin Ovalle.Moss' contract had expired on Monday and was let go on Tuesday. Moss tells the Portland Press Herald that she has no 'ill feelings' towards WMTW management, and understands that such changes happen in TV news.

Moss also told the Portland Press Herald, that the Nielsen Media Research, showed recently that the newscast she co-anchored had made gains.

Moss is married and has two sons ages 6 and 8, she has no specific job plans, but will stay in this area. Moss had previously worked in the Portland market with WCSH from 1999 until she joined WMTW in 2007.

WMTW's president and general manager, David Abel, had no comment on Moss' departure, citing company policy of not commenting on personnel matters.

Abel did not indicate who would replace Moss on the morning news.

On a personal note, I enjoyed Erin, Shannon, Matt and Mallory on Channel 8 during the morning news. They had a nice mix of information and fun. I would like to wish Shannon the best and I hope she's back on local television news soon.
