State Police say that 30-year-old, Brandon Bates, of Lewiston, was driving a black 2019 Toyota Highlander when it left the roadway and struck the overpass bridge at Hurricane Road.

Early reports say the vehicle travelled about 200 feet on the grass portion of the road shoulder before then drifting behind the guardrail and striking the overpass.

Maine State Police say they believe that Bates fell asleep behind the wheel, thus leading to the crash.

Maine State Police were assisted on the scene this morning by the Maine Turnpike Authority and Falmouth Fire & Rescue.

This is a developing story and we will continue to keep it updated as more information becomes available to us from the Maine State Police and from Shannon Moss at the Maine Department of Public Safety.
