A 19 year old Clinton, Maine man has been indicted on manslaughter charges.  The manslaughter charge is in connection with a fatal crash that occurred in Benton in October of 2021.

According to the KJ, Stephen B. Richardson III was behind the wheel of his 1998 Toyota Carola on October 31st, 2021.  Traveling on the Neck Road in Benton, he allegedly drifted into the oncoming lane, overcorrected and lost control of the car before hitting the utility pole.  The vehicle struck the pole on the passenger side of the vehicle, killing 19 year old Julie Clark.

The news article reported that, according to Kennebec County and Somerset County district attorney Maeghan Maloney, there was evidence of both alcohol and THC (marijuana) in Richardson’s system after the crash.

Richardson has been charged with Class A Manslaughter, which is punishable by 30 years in prison.  He was also charged with Driving To Endanger, which is a Class C offense.

In the news report, Maloney explained that "manslaughter" is described as a:

gross deviation” from the standard of conduct in which a reasonable, prudent person would engage.

There is no word on when the next court date would be.

Keep in mind that suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
