According to WGME13, The Augusta School Board recently discussed the possibility of adding holidays, observed by other cultures, to the schools' calendar.  We have a very diverse population in our state's capital...I think it is only fair to approve this request.

Chris Meyer Asch is a father of 3 and they are Jewish.  Asch's son, a kindergartner,  missed his first field trip with the school because it was scheduled on Rosh Hashanah.  Asch is the executive director of the capital-area New Mainers Project.  The group isn't requesting that these holidays be scheduled as No School days, rather just observing them before scheduling field trips and tests.

I think that is a very reasonable request.  The school board committee is meeting  Monday at 6:30pm at Cony High School to come up with a reasonable solution.
