As parents, our toughest job is making sure that our children are taken care of.

In addition to providing them with food, clothing, and shelter, we try our best to give them a safe place to grow up.  This applies to both at home and when they are out in the community.

Having 'lost' my children once or twice at a fair or in a busy store I can only imagine the panic of the guardian of the child who was asleep in the back of a vehicle that was stolen from a driveway in Bangor over the weekend.

According to WABI, Bangor Police are looking for the public's help in locating the person who stole a car from the driveway of a residence on Blue Hill East on Saturday night.

The vehicle's owner had just returned home after purchasing groceries.  The owner's child was asleep in the back of the car.  Instead of trying to juggle bags of groceries and a child, the parent left the child in the vehicle while they took the groceries inside the residence.

When the parent returned, the vehicle was gone.

Fortunately, the thief did not go far.  The vehicle was found abandoned in the middle of an intersection a short time later.  The child, unharmed, was still asleep in the back of the car.

If you have any information about the incident, you are urged to call the Bangor Police Department at 207.947.7384.
