Downtown Farmington  honors  it's most famous resident on Saturday,December 1st. It's Chester Greenwood Day with events in Downtown Farmington this Saturday from 10 to 3. Chester Greenwood was most famous for inventing earmuffs at the age of 15, but that's just the tip of the iceberg of what Chester Greenwood accomplished. He also patented a tea kettle and a steel tip rake and manufactured earmuffs in Farmington and owned a bicycle shop.

In 1977  Maine declared December 21st Chester Greenwood Day and his hometown of Farmington has celebrated Chester Greenwood Day the first Saturday of December. The day kicks off with the parade at 11am. There'll also be the Chamber Chili Challenge at Bangor Savings Bank on Main Street in Farmington from noon until 1pm. You can also checkout the 5th annual Chamber Gingerbread House Contest and take part in the Polar Bear dip at Clearwater Lake in Industry at 3pm. Plus see the earnuff fashion show in Meetinghouse Park in Farmington.
