While they have always been popular, in recent years, we have seen discount stores see a spike in customers.

The rapid inflation we have been experiencing since 2021 has prompted millions of Americans to find ways to save money. Both locally owned stores and national chains are offering high-quality goods at significantly discounted prices.

For several years, we have seen the popularity of these stores rise.  However, it looks as though we have reached a point where the prices at discount stores are still too high for some people.

What We Know About the Dollar General Closures

While it is a discount store, Dollar General has always filled that niche between the stores that sell off-brand items and everything costs $1 or $2 and the stores selling items at full price.  Even though the prices were discounted, Dollar General stores sell popular brand-name items at a discount.

It looks like the crazy inflation has even started to affect Dollar General.  However, it does not look like the chain has taken such a big hit that it is on its way out.

According to an article from Good Housekeeping, it was announced in the recent earnings report that the company will soon shutter about 100 locations.

The closure of the stores is part of a plan to optimize the business.  In addition to the closures, they plan to open over 500 new stores in the near future.

Which Dollar General Stores Are Closing?

At this point, they have not announced which stores will be closing.

Well, a full list of the stores affected has not been released.  A quick search of the internet shows the closure announcements for a few stores at various places around the country.

The company will decide which stores to close based on their recent performance and future projections.

As we learn more about these closures, we will pass the information on to you.
