Police are investigating the death of a man in Winthrop on Wednesday night.

According to an article on the WCSH 6 website, the unidentified man was died after being hit by a pickup truck on Route 202 in Winthrop, according to police.

Winthrop police, fire, and ambulance crews were called to the area near the Winthrop Veterinary Clinic just before 6 p.m. for a serious crash.

The pedestrian was taken to MaineGeneral Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Police say his name is being withheld until family members are notified.

According to a press release, the vehicle involved was a black 2015 Dodge pickup truck driven by 51-year-old Merton Ward of Augusta.  The truck was traveling east on Route 202 when it struck the pedestrian.

Route 202 was shut down for about three and a half hours while crews worked the scene.

The crash is still under investigation and is being reconstructed by Maine State Police. The Monmouth Police Department and Maine State Police are assisting, and the Kennebec-Somerset District Attorney’s Office has been notified.
