It was the fight that featured the 'phantom punch', the Ali-Liston fight in Lewiston, Maine in 1965. The boxing gloves of Muhammad Ali and of Sonny Liston that were used in that fight on May 25, 1965 in Lewiston are going on the auction block.

The fight with the 'phantom punch' that ended less than two minutes into the first round put Lewiston, Maine on the map.

The heavyweight title match 50 years ago is still one of the most controversial sporting events to this day.

Both pairs of gloves used in that match are going on the auction block. Heritage Auctions is offering them as a single lot on February 21, 2015 in New York. Bidding will start at $500,000 and the auctioneer expects they will sell for more than one million dollars.

On a personal note, my Dad was at that fight and I heard stories growing up about that fight.
