For many Mainers, Halloween is one of the most anticipated holidays of the year.

Much like Christmas, it is one of those holidays that changes as we age.  When we are kids, we are just excited to be able to get bags of candy.  When we are young adults, it is a chance to dress up like we never would and get lit.  When we settle down and become parents, we live the Halloween fun vicariously through our children.

Even though our feelings about the holiday change as we each, it remains fun.

Halloween in Maine

For years, families went trick-or-treating.  They made their way up and down the residential streets of their towns, stopping at each house.

In recent years, that has all changed.

These days, more families are participating in trunk-or-treat-style events than ever before.  Typically, a trunk-or-treat event involves organizations, businesses, and individuals lining their vehicles up in a parking lot.  Each decorated trunk (or tailgate) becomes a trick-or-treating stop.

Alternatively, some events may feature candy stops set up as booths.  This is the case with Augusta’s Trick-or-Treat on Water Street.

Trick-or-Treat on Water Street in Augusta, Maine

The massive Halloween event is scheduled to return to downtown Augusta on Thursday, October 31, 2024.

According to the Augusta Downtown Alliance Facebook page, the event will feature dozens of candy stops, music, activities, and food trucks.

The post for the event, which will run from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Halloween, says:

We will have over 40 vendors, food trucks, games and activities for kids, and LIVE MUSIC by Pat Colwell and the Soul Sensations! We also have LIVE DANCE performances at 6pm and 7pm from Merkaba Sol Witches’ Dance Crew and “Haunted” storefronts to explore!

Get additional details HERE.

We are glad to see this magical event making a return.  Last year, as you may remember, the event was canceled over concerns about the mass shooting in Lewiston.
