Maine DEA Seizes Deadly Fentanyl, Cocaine, Meth, & Several Firearms
According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety's Shannon Moss, 3 people have been arrested and more arrests could be on the way following a major drug bust in Hancock that investigators say uncovered more than $30,000 worth of illegal drugs.
The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency says agents executed a search warrant on June 3 at a property located at 221 Franklin Road after a month-long investigation into suspected drug trafficking activity. The search involved a single-family home, several camper trailers, and an on-site business known as Hancock Cycle.
Authorities say seven people were on the property when agents arrived, but the property's owner, 60-year-old John Crawford of Hancock, was not there.
During the search, agents seized more than 235 grams of cocaine base, commonly known as crack cocaine, 79 grams of fentanyl, 12 grams of methamphetamine, 5 grams of powdered cocaine, and four firearms. Investigators estimate the street value of the drugs at more than $30,000.
Two people were arrested during the search. Jonathan Sprague, 29, of Milbridge, was charged with unlawful possession of scheduled drugs and violation of conditions of release. Matthew Crabtree, 33, of Ellsworth, was charged with violation of conditions of release.
Following the search, agents obtained an arrest warrant for Crawford on two counts of aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs involving cocaine base and fentanyl. Hancock County Sheriff's deputies arrested Crawford at his residence on the evening of June 15. He was taken to the Hancock County Jail, where bail was set at $10,000.
The investigation remains active, and authorities say additional arrests are expected.
The MDEA was assisted by the Maine State Police Tactical Team, the Hancock County Sheriff's Office, and Homeland Security Investigations. Officials say they will continue working with local, state, and federal partners to target organizations involved in distributing illegal drugs throughout Maine.
