The lasagna loving ball of fur, Garfield, turns 35-years old today. Garfield, the comic strip, was created by Jim Davis and Garfield was named after his grandfather. The comic strip first was published on June 19, 1978.Now in 2013, Garfield is syndicated in nearly 2,580 newspapers and journals, and holds the Guinness World Record for being the world's most widely syndicated comic strip.

Garfield and his 'owner' Jon Arbuckle along with Jon's dog, Odie live in Muncie, Indiana.

We all have a little bit of Garfield in all of us, with his laziness, obsessive eating, and hatred of Monday's and diets.

Garfield has spawned merchandise earning $750 million to $1billion annually.

Besides, the comic strip, Garfield has been on television. From 1982 to 1991, 12 prime time Garfield cartoon specials aired. Garfield and Friends aired from 1988 to 1994.

Garfield has also been in the movies, the first Garfield movie starred Bill Murray as the voice of Garfield and was released on June 11, 2004. There were three more Garfield movies, in 2007, Garfield Gets Real, in 2008 Garfield's Fun Fest was released and in 2009, there was Garfield's Pet Force.

Throw in Garfield video games, comic books and even a stage show, and it's been a great 41 years for Garfield.
