Kurt Ballard, a student at Harvard University, developed a model for predicting the odds of each NFL team to make this year’s playoffs.

He used ESPN’s depth chart along with the value of the core makeup of each team. The offense and defense including the top 2 players in the secondary. So what do the numbers show?

In the NFC, the Seattle Seahawks are predicted to make it to the Super Bowl, with a 95% chance. The Green Bay Packers are second at 93%.

In the AFC, surprise, surprise, The Miami Dolphins have a 77% chance of going all the way. Coming in second at 66% are the Kansas City Chiefs. In third place is last year’s Super Bowl Champs, the New England Patriots at 62%.

After taking everything in to consideration to make his predictions, Ballard admits, he doesn’t take the teams schedules into consideration. Seems to me that would be the first thing you want to use, but then again, I didn’t graduate from Harvard.
