Maine Saw a Steep Jump in the Number of Crashes in 2025
By the time that most of us reach adulthood, we have been in at least a few vehicle crashes. God willing, none of them were serious enough to cause a bad injury or death.
Believe it or not, there are dozens of crashes that happen all across the state every day.
Actually, given how rural Maine is, I was shocked by the number of crashes that happen here each year.
Maine Sees an Increase in the Number of Crashes in 2025
According to an article on the WABI website, the Maine Department of Transportation is reporting that Maine saw about 34,000 crashes in 2025.
That is an increase of about 2,000 crashes over 2024.
While most of those crashes were just fender-benders, some were more serious.
Nearly 7,800 people were hurt in crashes, and 152 people lost their lives. Maine DOT also says there were 244 crashes involving a pedestrian. Twenty two of those were fatal.
There is one small bit of good news. Crashes involving moose dropped way down in 2025. There were just 34, compared to 217 the year before. And according to the data, no one died in those moose crashes.
