I really love living in Central Maine.

The area has a lot to offer.  We have a fairly affordable cost of living (when compared to the southern part of the state), great restaurants, cool shops, we're a short drive from New England's best attractions, and residents of Central Maine are honest & hard working.

Of course, the area is not without its problems.

One of the biggest problems in the Augusta area is the lack of public transportation.  Unlike Boston, New York, or even Portland, if you do not own a vehicle you are at a serious disadvantage.

While there are a few Uber and Lyft drivers in the area, most people rely on the local taxi companies to get them where they need to go.

A recent WGME article explained that Kennebec Taxi provides rides to work for between ten and fifteen people each day.

Unfortunately, it looks like it will soon get a lot more difficult for people who lack a vehicle in the Augusta area.  It was announced via a Facebook post that November 21st will be the last day of operation for Kennebec Taxi, Augusta's largest taxi company.

The post said, in part:

It’s with a heavy heart that I regret to inform everyone that as of November 21, we will be closing down the Company. we tried so hard to be able to stay open and service all of our great customers, but unfortunately, the economy is not great so we can no longer keep the company open.

In part, the post also promoted the city's other two taxi companies.  Capital City Taxi can be reached at 207.616.8604 and N&M Taxi can be reached at 207.509.8568

We wish the people behind Kennebec Taxi all the best with whatever they end up doing next.
