While it is not always the case, towns and cities with colleges often end up being the most picturesque in a given region.

When you think about it, it really does make sense.  Nicer colleges, especially Ivy League or "Junior" Ivy League institutions, often pump vast amounts of money into a town.  Of course, the students and faculty spend money in the town.  Additionally, in many cases, the colleges themselves spend money in the town.  All of this spending helps the local economy and, in turn, leads to the towns/cities being nicer places to live.

House Beautiful recently ranked the Most Beautiful College Towns in America, focusing on communities that combine natural beauty with a relaxed atmosphere.

These towns offer much more than college campuses, featuring tree-lined streets, lakes and rivers, historic downtowns, independent shops, restaurants, breweries and coffee shops.
