One thing that has certainly gained much more interest since the start of the pandemic is a greater focus on sustainability. That could mean planting a garden to be more in control of the supply chain of your local food source. It could also mean simply a greater focus on what is available and produced locally.

If you choose the garden route, one thing that can certainly improve your outcome is ensuring as many of your plants get pollinated as possible, and that means....Bees!

There are estimates that approximately one third of our diet comes from insect pollinated plants, with honey bees responsible for more than 80 percent of that pollination.

You may have seen the honey bee displays on the local fair circuit like at the Windsor Fair. But why not learn how you and your family can add bee keeping to your list of skills...and have a pretty amazing garden too!

The Knox-Lincoln County Beekeepers and Maine’s State Bee Inspector are putting on a 7 week, interactive, online ZOOM course which will provide you with the basic information to get you started as a beekeeper.

If you are not sure if this is right for you and your family, they are hosting a FREE “So You THINK You Want To Be A Beekeeper?” presentation on Feb. 16th.

The official "Bee School" will begin Feb. 23rd and continue through April 6th.
