It was just a few short years ago that what we are now able to do, for free, with artificial intelligence would have been considered science fiction.

These days, we are using artificial intelligence for so many tasks.  Many people have been using AI to develop content ideas, conduct research, and even produce videos.

Every time I flip past one of those AI-generated videos of a sasquatch or yeti doing d***s (you know the ones I am talking about), I am amazed at how far we've come in just the last two or three years.

This NSFW comparison of Will Smith eating spaghetti in 2023 versus 2024 really shows us how far we've come.

However, it appears that Maine is not in a great position to take advantage of the AI revolution.

What is the AI Race/Revolution?

The AI Race (or, AI Revolution) is a move by businesses of all types and sizes to begin using artificial intelligence to aid flesh-and-blood employees.

This generally goes way beyond having Siri or Gemini tell you what the weather is going to be like or telling you who the last emperor of Rome was.  Nope, these days, many companies are using the power of artificial intelligences to analyze data and create creative content.

Why is Maine Trailing in the Race?

According to a recent article from Brainly, Maine ranks near the bottom (49th place) in breakdown of how prepared each state is for using artificial intelligence at work.

As of July 2025, only 7% of Maine businesses were frequently using artificial intelligence and the state only had 6 AI-related jobs per 1,000 workers.

Additionally, only half of Maine homes have access to high speed internet and very few high schoolers were involved in taking computer science/coding courses.

Also, only 26 out of 10,000 young adults had a degree relating to AI.

Who Topped the List?

The article explains that Washing D.C. was at the top on the list.

Believe it or not, New Hampshire, our neighbor to the west, came in second place.
