According to the website MaineGasPrices.com, the average retail price of a gallon of gas in Maine rose more than two cents this past week to $3.54. The website surveys more than 1,200 gas stations in Maine. Maine's gas prices are 28 cents higher than the national average.

Maine's average gallon of gas ranks it right in the middle of the six New England states. Neighboring state, New Hampshire, has an average of $3.41 per gallon, followed by Massachusetts at $3.48, then Maine at $3.54, Rhode Island at $3.55, Vermont at $3.56 and Connecticut at $3.68. There are six states with an average under $3.00 per gallon. Wyoming has the least expensive gas at $2.91 per gallon. The other states with an average under $3 are Colorado, Idaho, Minnesota, Oklahoma and Utah.
