Whether you are a believer in ghosts and the paranormal or not, most of us would be a little creeped out if we found out that someone had checked out in the home where we currently live.

If you live in a newer home, while it is still possible that someone died in your house, it is much less likely than if you live in a house or apartment building that is over a century old.  These days, most people end up in a hospital or long term care facility.  Back in the day, before we all became super used to hospitals, people were just more likely to die at home.

So, what do you do if you want to find out if someone died in your home?  You could do a Google search for the address, hope that something pops up, and sort through endless articles if something does pop up.  Alternatively, you could check out the Died In House website.

For a small fee (about $12), the website will do a deep dive into public records to find out whether or not anyone has ever died in your house.  If someone did die in the house, and the information is in the public records, it will tell you how they died (murder, suicide, etc)   In addition to finding out whether or not a death has occurred in the house, the website will also let you know about sex offenders who have lived in the house, nearby cemeteries, meth activity, and more.

Why is it important to know?  In many cases, the fact that a death happened in the home can drastically lower the price.  On top of that, some people just get creeped out by that kind of stuff.
