If you have lived in Maine for more than a few months, there is a good chance that you have come to realize that some parts of our wonderful state are known for their farms.  Potato farms, dairy farms, and even broccoli and pea farms.

However, there is a good chance that you have never really had a chance to experience one of our farms firsthand.

Well, here's your chance!

According to an article on the WABI website, the 37th Annual Maine Open Farm Day is this Sunday.  This is the day where visitors an opportunity to explore more than 80 working farms across 15 counties. From family-run dairy farms to flower growers and fiber producers, participating farms will open their gates and welcome the public for a closer look at what goes into producing some of Maine's best agricultural products.

The annual event, which began in 1989, was created by Maine farmers and supporters as a way to connect people with the state's agricultural community.  Over the past three decades, it has grown into one of Maine's premier agritourism events, helping residents and visitors alike gain a better appreciation for the farms that help feed and support the state.

No two stops are exactly alike.  Depending on the farm, visitors may have the chance to tour barns and fields, meet livestock, learn how crops are grown, or chat directly with the farmers about the work that goes into raising food, flowers, and fiber throughout the year.
