The Washington Post recently put together an interesting interactive map that allows you to hover over any county in the country and see how it ranks. The Federal Government came up with a study on natural amenities in the country.

The federal government rankings were based on the following:

How warm winter is
How much winter sun a place gets
How temperate its summer is
Whether it has low humidity in the summer
Variation in topography
The area covered by water

According to that study, southern California and south Florida ranked highest in the nation. While Maine didn't do very well.

Washington county in Maine ranked 342nd out of 3,111 counties, the best any Maine county ranked. Kennebec County ranked 1,557 out of 3,111.

Red Lake County in Minnesota came in dead last.

What do you think of these rankings? What do you look for?
