The Maine State Police are alerting the public via their Facebook page that they have been seeing more and more vehicles displaying illegal auxiliary/emergency lights on their vehicles. The use of auxiliary/emergency lights are regulated by statute in Title 29-A section 2054. "In particular we have seen an increase in the use of white emergency lighting being used in conjunction with amber lighting."

Because the purchase and availability of such lights are so prevalent online. It's important to make the public aware.

While amber lights are authorized for some non-emergency vehicles in some applications, white lights are strictly prohibited for non-emergency vehicles.

It is illegal to display any optional auxiliary lighting that blinks, oscillates, rotate, flashes or is of a color contrary to law. The fine for this violation is $154.00.…/…/title29-Asec2054.html…/…/title29-Asec1909-B.html
