Mainers May See an Increase in Pay For Performing Their Civic Duty
A new bill is being considered that would raise juror pay for state courts from $15 a day to $50 per day, which would match the rate for jurors serving in federal court.
According to the Bangor Daily News, the Legislature's judiciary committee is in agreement that a raise is in fact needed, but are split over the amount as some are pushing for a $10 increase, others have yet to vote on the issue.
If the raise to $50 per day passes, the judiciary's annual budget will increase from $1.1M to $1.3M in 2021. Prior to 2016, that budget was just $500,000.
